Baby Boomers - Six New Agey Steps to Put Zip in Your Step

The first wave of baby boomers will reach their 65th birthday five years ago. That's a lot of people entering a new phase of life. If you are a baby-boomer, no doubt you have already made adjustments to accommodate your lifestyle as you open this new door of your life. Don't be scared. Life can be spectacular with a few tweaks here and there. It can be the best time of your life. Yes, you can zip along singing a great song; or, you can feel bad and do nothing at all. The world is yours. It's all up to YOU.

Here are a few tips that will help you zip along with a little bit more zest for life:

1. Volunteer--Your whole life can't be about you. Share the wonderful attributes and skills you have developed through the years. There was a great study done by John Hopkins regarding elderly volunteers. They studied a number of elderly adults that spent time tutoring students to read better, check out books, and play cooperatively. The results showed the volunteers experienced a meaningful improvement in their own physical and mental health. This is a two for one. By helping someone else, you will benefit yourself and lift someone else's spirit.

2. Natural stress buster--Find a natural stress buster that suits you. Although you may be retired, life can still be stressful. As such, why not look into natural ways to help you reduce your stress. Some natural stress busters are exercise, artistic expression, and application of the Alexander Technique. Pick one that fits your schedule and is fun for you.

3. Fulfill a dream--Do something you have always dreamed of doing. Every person has at least a few things they have put off doing either because of time restraints or lack of money. Or, maybe you just dismissed your dream because you didn't have the courage to do it. It doesn't have to be a big drawn out thing. For some people just taking art lessons might be their unfulfilled passion. Whatever it is, now is the time to go for it.

4. Magnetic jewelry--The use of magnets is a natural and safe way to improve health. Magnetic therapy should be used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle and is not meant to cure disease. Magnets have been used for centuries to increase the blood flow to various areas of the body helping to increase circulation and decrease mild pain. An additional benefit of wearing this jewelry is that is just looks great!

5. Vitamin D--Get Fresh Air and Sun (vitamin D) every day. Since vitamin D deficiency has been shown to be a factor in many varieties of cancer and other known diseases, it is advisable to make sure you have enough vitamin D in your diet. Depending on where you live and the time of the year, 20-30 minutes of direct sun to exposed skin is advised to raise your vitamin D levels. As far as fresh air is concerned, it's just more fun to be outside getting your sunshine boost.

6. Eat healthier and start juicing--Most of us already know that too many refined sugars and packaged foods are not a healthy diet. Add more vegetables and fruits into your diet. Preferably--foods listed high in antioxidants is recommended. Why? Foods measuring a higher antioxidant value may fight age-related diseases and degeneration. The measurement for this is called an ORAC unit (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). A wonderful way to boost your system quickly with these antioxidants is juicing.
